A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That

QuiltCon is looming before us.  There is much to be done.  Namely a couple of bags (we'll get to the first one of those in a moment) and some Guild projects.  My guild is participating in a pincushion swap with some other Modern Quilt Guilds in attendance.  At the time this was announced I had never made a pincushion.  Now I'm a pro, thanks to the easy make and take at my local quilt shop.  ;)

I saw this tutorial on V&Co. and thought I'd give it a whirl.  There are well over 1,000 french knots making up that heart.  It took days of stitching, and it's REALLY hard to give it away.  But, I know I can always make myself another one someday, so I'm happy to send it along to it's new owner soon.  I hope they enjoy it!

I did end up needing a second embroidery floss skein (are they called skeins like yarn?).  I used almost the entire second one as well!  Holy moly!
It was fun to play with the variegated ("ombre" if you will) embroidery floss from Cosmo.  :)  I did line my pincushion with fabric inside.  I found in my first pincushion that the crushed walnut shells have kind of dirtied up the fabric a bit.  So, I thought this gave it some added security.  I think it feels a bit nicer too with that added layer.

I have also been plugging away at my 241 Tote.  I have only ever made one bag before (it was a present for my mom).  So, I was a bit nervous about this one.  There are a few options for this tote.  One involves zipper pockets.  That was my original plan.  But, then I changed my mind of fabrics so the zippers I bought didn't coordinate anymore, and I ditched the zippers in favor of pockets.  I considered still keeping the zippers, but in the end...I just didn't want to mar that lovely Joel Dewberry fabric.  :)

All I bought for this bag was the magnetic snap!  :)  Working from the stash!!!
I think that Yarn Dyed Black Linen is fabulous.  It looks like denim but is oh so soft!!!  And I thought some sewing definitions would be nice inside the bag.  This was my first time to use a magnetic snap. Easy peasy!  Oh, and there is a slip pocket inside as well (you can see just a little peek of the top of it) out of the same Joel Dewberry fabric as the front.  (I stink at remembering fabric line names so pardon my lack of referencing them.)

Next up?  A name tag.  It's going to involve sequins.  Yep...that's right!  Sequins!  Exciting!  And then the Art Student Tote.  3 zippers people!!!  3 zippers!  AAAHHHH!!!!

What are you working on for QuiltCon?  I need to do my link up post with my 5 random things about myself.  But...I can't think of 5 random things.  Maybe I'll ask my husband for ideas.  lol

    1. Thanks so much!!! :) I was so scared to work on that tote. I have no earthly idea why now that I'm done. It has given me more confidence to start my Art Student Tote though.

  2. Woah, awesome pincushion! I'm getting ready to start a name tag as well. Nothing as exciting as sequins though! LOL

  3. That is a seriously gorgeous bag. I love everything - from the interior to the grey/blue/orange exterior.

  4. I made the art student tote last summer and it was time consuming but not hard. And it uses the easiest method of putting in the zippers that I've ever used since you don't have to worry about how your corners will look. Good luck!
