I've been sharing about the progress on my hubby's quilt lately and I briefly mentioned the quilting side of things in the last post. Currently I only have two more blocks to complete before piecing the top. So, it's about this time I begin to really finalize my quilting ideas.
Normally I have a pretty solid idea of what I want to do, and I thought I had this one figured out as well. The pattern comes with a template for quilting. It's just basic circles inside of circles that converge at the corners of each block to create a sort of curved diamond shape as a secondary pattern. So, I taped the template to a window (my light board was too small) and put a quilt block on top of it. The intention was to hand quilt this entire sucker in these circles. But, as I was tracing them two things occurred to me:
1) This is a real pain in the patootie, and
2) This is so...expected.
Don't get me wrong. I would love to hand quilt this thing, but it's part of the pattern, so why not spice it up a bit. My husband didn't really want it hand quilted anyway. That was all me.
So I played around a bit with designs and came up with this:
The quilt is fairly large making it doubling challenging. However...the hand quilted circles...the tracing is a pain in the rear, but I know I would get great but "expected" results.
Any thoughts? I'm so torn.
